Latest company news about What Is a LED Heliport Beacon? AH-HP-B1 Heliport Beacon Guide for Helipads, Heliports and Helidecks

What Is a LED Heliport Beacon?

A LED heliport beacon is a high-intensity white light signal installed at a heliport or helideck to provide long-range visual guidance for approaching helicopters. It enables pilots to identify the landing area from a distance, especially when the heliport is difficult to distinguish from surrounding lights or when operating in low-visibility conditions.

Anhang Technology, a professional manufacturer of aviation lighting solutions, has launched the AH-HP-B1 LED Heliport Beacon to meet this critical safety need. The beacon emits four quick white flashes in 0.8 seconds followed by a 1.2-second pause, completing a full cycle every 2 seconds - the internationally recognized Morse code "H" signal for heliport identification.

Why Is a Heliport Beacon Required?

According to ICAO Annex 14 Volume II, a heliport beacon should be provided where long-range visual guidance is considered necessary and is not provided by other visual means, or where identification of the heliport is difficult due to surrounding lights. The beacon should be located on or adjacent to the heliport, preferably at an elevated position, and positioned so that it does not dazzle a pilot at short range. The AH-HP-B1 is designed in full compliance with these requirements.

What Standards Does the AH-HP-B1 Comply With?

  • ICAO Annex 14 Volume II - Heliports, Section 5.3.2
  • FAA AC 150/5390-2B Heliport Design Guide
  • CAP 437 - Standards for Offshore Helicopter Landing Areas

What Are the Key Features of the AH-HP-B1?

  • 95% energy saving - LED light source consumes 95% less power than equivalent incandescent beacons
  • High light intensity - 2,500 cd or above with 360° horizontal coverage and 10° or more vertical divergence
  • Long service life - LED life over 100,000 hours; product life expectancy of 10 years plus
  • All-weather durability - IP66 waterproof rating; operates from -55°C to 70°C; withstands wind speeds up to 80 m/s
  • Corrosion resistance - clear polycarbonate lens with UV protection; powder-coated die-casting aluminum base
  • Flexible power supply - DC (12V, 48V) or AC (110-240VAC) with integrated circuit protection
